Tips on breastfeeding your child

Breastfeeding milk is the best food you can offer to your newborn baby. The WHO recommends that all babies are breastfed exclusively for at least 6 months and in underdeveloped country breastfeeding is encouraged up to 6 years old
However breastfeeding can be challenging especially to first time mothers. Here are the few tips on making breastfeeding for you

1. attitude adjustment
- positive attitude, confidence, patient and open mind
2. support system
- ask help from your family, friends and your health providers
3. massage
- you should massage your breast when you are 7 months pregnant to encourage the production of breast milk. This way when your baby is born, you can produce enough milk
4. take care of yourself
- eat healthy meals and drinks plenty of fluids and get enough rest
5. start early
- expert recommend you to nurse your infant as soon as possible. If can 30 min - 1 hour after delivery
6. positioning
- make sure you are in comfortable position before you start breastfeeding
7. latching
- you know your baby latched properly when you can see more of the areola ( dark area around your nipple) above his mouth than below it.His chin should touch your breast
8. no clicking
- you should only hear your baby suckling sound but not clicking or lip smacking

The Right Gear
1. nursing bra
- make sure that the cup clasps are easy to open one-handed since your arm will probably be cuddling a hungry baby.Make sure its fit well not too tight
2. breast pump
- breast pump is vital if your breast are full and sore. For working mother an electric double pump is your best choice. For mums who will only pump occasionally,a battery operated or manual pump you all need
3. nursing pads
- choose nursing pads that conform to the shape of your breast and can be worn invisibly under absolutely anything. They also make it possible for you to sleep bra-less at night without waking up to a soaking wet gown
